A man facing a large number of charges in five open criminal cases was ordered to appear in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday, but he was a no-show. Thirty-seven-year-old Alfonso Nicholas Moran, Jr., who has listed several addresses including Mountain Home, was in court for a hearing on allegations that he has violated conditions for his $10,000 cash only bond. A couple reported to have been extremely intoxicated when they took a boat for a short joy ride on Lake Norfork before grounding it at Henderson Park appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday. Mark Hodges was booked in May of 2022 with overall charges including Rape, 1st Degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Probation Violation. A Baxter County woman has been charged with a felony count of hindering apprehension of a man facing trial in Marion County for rape and sexual assault. The United States Marshals Service Task Force was contacted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to assist in locating and arresting Merrill. As Clerk to the probate court, the clerk files all instruments making them a matter of record in descendent estate cases, and swears in all witnesses in contested estates. The clerk, also in this capacity, maintains all records relative to adoptions and guardianship cases within the county. The County Clerk shall serve, unless otherwise designated by the county ordinance, as the secretariat of the quorum court. These duties involve keeping a complete permanent record of the proceedings of the Quorum Court including minutes, ordinances, resolutions and an index to provide easy access to the information. The county has two hydroelectric dams operated by the Corps of Engineers. Norfork Dam is located on the North Fork River at river mile 4.8, four miles northeast of Norfork.
The county courthouse sits between two of the states largest lakes, Bull Shoals and Norfork. The courthouse is located fourteen miles from the oldest courthouse in Arkansas, the log house of Major Wolfe, built in 1809 and still standing at the town of Norfork. Over the past three decades, the population of Baxter County has boomed. Much of the countys growth and more than half its tax dollars can be traced to tourism and retirement. Other resources include a technical campus of Arkansas State University and a fine regional medical center located in Mountain Home. The county has a large water-base recreation such as the White River, North Fork River, Lake Norfork, Bull Shoals Lake and the Buffalo National River.

A 29-year-old Mountain Home woman arrested in early May after allegedly threatening family members with a knife and fighting with deputies made an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday. The Mountain Home City Council met for their final meeting of 2022 Thursday night. The council heard a first reading for an ordinance regulating noise within the City of Mountain Home. Thirty-three-year-old Carlo Joseph Farruggia pled guilty to amended charges and was sentenced to three years probation.
